prologue: the last snow of 2006
As it's falling I'm falling
to turn myself around.
The year I knew was fading
and I'm fading without a sound.
The bus I was on was gliding,
gliding me homeward bound.
Snowflakes on the windows sliding,
slowing sliding towards the ground.
The snow came to remind me
that familiar is far away.
Water always flows to the sea;
the snow's not here to stay.
My first winter is ending.
I find I'm still standing.
i was on the 171 back from campus to shoreland hall, on a day where it was snowing pretty badly. when the snow hit the windows of the bus, it stuck and slowly turned into water, then slid to the ground. i was mesmerised by that, and thought how beautiful the world is compared to the affairs of man. i said that to someone, but i didn't mean for her to take anything away from that. because that's just the truth that we have to live with.
it's warmer now. and spring brings with it a new hope that really marks the start of a new year.
